What this is
NZ Compare 2026 (easyexplain.org) is a free, independent website that lays out all 7 major parties contesting the 2026 New Zealand general election side by side across 27 policy domains — tax, housing, health, climate, immigration and more — each one explained in plain English first, then in fuller detail underneath. It also tracks published opinion polls, real campaign moments, an electorate-by-electorate candidate lookup for all 71 seats, and automatically flags when a party's own policy page changes.
Quotable, word for word
Non-partisan statement
"NZ Compare 2026 is an independent side project, not affiliated with the New Zealand Electoral Commission or any political party, candidate, or media organisation. Every party gets the same number of categories, the same tone, and a link back to its own source — there's no ranking, scoring, or editorial opinion. Content is hand-written and may contain mistakes; corrections are always welcome at contact@easyexplain.org."

How the comparisons are built
Every policy row is hand-researched against each party's own published manifesto, policy page, or on-the-record statements, with a source link attached wherever possible. The "Explain simply" analogy under each row is written for this site to make the idea click quickly — it's an illustrative comparison, not a literal description or a quote from any party, and is never a substitute for reading the actual policy. A lightweight automated check polls each party's official policy page and recent NZ political news every 2 hours; it only flags that something may have changed so it can be reviewed and updated by hand — it does not auto-publish new claims.
